Three sailors – Gabey, Chip and Ozzie – let loose on a 24-hour pass in New York and the Big Apple will never be the same! Gabey falls head over heels for “Miss Turnstiles of the Month” (he thinks she’s a high society deb when she’s really a ‘cooch dancer at Coney Island); innocent Chip gets highjacked (literally) by a lady cab driver; and Ozzie becomes the object of interest of a gorgeous anthropologist who thinks he’s the perfect example of a “prehistoric man”. Wonderful music and terrific shots of New York at its best.

    On the Town GoMovies Review

On the Town contains all the components of a successful movie: a twisted plot that unfolds with the help of unexpected and atypical twists, memorable characters and good actors: Ann Miller, Florence Bates, Frank Sinatra, Gene Kelly, Hans Conried.

A brilliant script that was something out of the ordinary for 1949, coupled with skillful directorial work, turned this movie into an example of good cinematography.

What I love about Comedy, Music, Romance is that absolutely any movie made in this genre always has such an important component as an unrealistically cool musical accompaniment.

This movie can be disassembled into quotes, never before in 98 minutes I have not been able to experience such a wide range of emotions, Gene Kelly, Stanley Donen just wrapped my soul on a fist.

Despite the dryish script in places, Gene Kelly, Stanley Donen created a good movie: the atmosphere is perfectly conveyed, everything in the frame looks natural, each actor is in his place.

Ann Miller, Florence Bates, Frank Sinatra, Gene Kelly, Hans Conried were able to believably play the proposed characters, in modern cinema this is a great rarity, because not every actor is able to feel the character as himself.
