Steve McQueen is ideally cast as a champion race car driver, participating in the famed 24-hour race headquartered in Le Mans, France. Though dedicated to Going for the Gold, McQueen finds time to romance widowed Elga Andersen. The dramatic angle to this plot wrinkle is that McQueen may well have been responsible for the death of Andersen’s husband during a previous car pile-up. Director John Sturges, who’d previously helmed Steve McQueen’s legendary motorcycle chase scenes in The Great Escape, was originally slated to direct Le Mans, but withdrew from the project; it was then taken over by Lee H. Katzin.

Le Mans GoMovies Review
Le Mans contains all the components of a successful movie: a twisted plot that unfolds with the help of unexpected and atypical twists, memorable characters and good actors: Allison Tolman, Angelo Infanti, Anne Libert, Elga Andersen, Fred Haltiner, Jean-Claude Bercq, Louise Edlind, Luc Merenda, Ronald Leigh-Hunt, Siegfried Rauch, Steve McQueen.
This movie became the most memorable of those that I watched in 1971, because the ending, in my opinion, although correct, but at the same time very unexpected, at least it will not leave anyone indifferent.
Every time I come across a new movie in the genre of Action, Drama, I postpone everything, Le Mans pleasantly surprised me: a delightful plot that was revealed thanks to an emotional and live performance.
In this movie, the concepts of `good` and `evil` are well intertwined, 104 min minutes fly by unnoticed, but after watching, there is a feeling of some kind of understatement.
Despite the dryish script in places, Lee H. Katzin created a good movie: the atmosphere is perfectly conveyed, everything in the frame looks natural, each actor is in his place.
Allison Tolman, Angelo Infanti, Anne Libert, Elga Andersen, Fred Haltiner, Jean-Claude Bercq, Louise Edlind, Luc Merenda, Ronald Leigh-Hunt, Siegfried Rauch, Steve McQueen perform their roles in such a way that the acting itself is not visible, it seems that you are watching ordinary people who just live their lives.
