Charles Mingus: Triumph of the Underdog GoMovies

Don McGlynn’s uncompromising and soulful documentary look at the tumultuous life of musician and rebel Charles Mingus is fascinating stuff. Mingus said of himself ”I am half black man, half yellow man, but I claim to be a Negro. I am Charles Mingus, the famed jazz musician–but not famed enough to make a living in America.” His statement summed up the conflict that plagued this musical genius his entire life: volatility, pain, prescience, and raw rage roiled inside a complex man, composer, bass player, and trombonist who transcended labels and refused to be pigeonholed into a single musical style–and who did not achieve real fame until late in his career.

Charles Mingus: Triumph of the Underdog GoMovies Review

I liked the movie Charles Mingus: Triumph of the Underdog, thanks to the boring dialogue between the characters and the really intriguing moment of their interaction with each other, 78 min minutes of time were well spent.

The movie is very good for 2004, a special respect for the defiant cast, demonstrating a very believable relationship, without a drop of pretense.

The main theme of the movie is not new for Documentary, Music, but the director managed to reveal it quite realistically, plus the characters are not made of cardboard, you want to analyze their actions.

Throughout the 78 min minutes, I had the feeling that not today, but tomorrow, I will definitely meet them in the nearest supermarket or park.

You fall in love with this movie from the first scene, thought through everything to the smallest detail: a cool acting game and a plot, in which, in addition to drive, there is also depth, they catch to the depths of the soul.

The characters are interesting and not stereotyped, but the Philip Rosch, who brought them to life, pumped up a little, because they did not always play their roles reliably, apparently, they could not fully feel their heroes.
